Specializing in Japanese to English translation

Background

After working as an in-house translator and technical writer at a Japanese software company for ten years, I spent three years at the headquarters of Canon Inc. in Tokyo where I coordinated the production of a variety of English documentation related to digital cameras and printers (including user manuals, technical specifications, and user interfaces).

Since the fall of 2007 I have been doing freelance translation and website design full-time.

Software localization
Software localizationDuring my time at the software company, I was involved in the Japanese localization of several PC games (UI, dialogue, and manuals) such as Grand Theft Auto, Mafia, Anno 1503, Myst, Soldiers of Anarchy, and many more. My experience with software localization included bug testing, as well as on-site QA (quality assurance ) trouble-shooting at client companies in the US.
More recently, I participated in the English localization of storyline documentation, and character dialogue in the Samurai Warriors console game (for PlayStation 2, and Xbox).

User guides and technical/repair manual translation
User manual translationI have translated a wide variety of user and repair manuals, including pressure guages, passport printers, compact photo printers, digital cameras, mobile telephones, semiconductors, and many more.
Manuals can be in a variety of formats and sizes, and I can also handle various design aspects in addition to translation of the basic text. I also have extensive experience managing manual translations from start to finish, dealing with production agencies, and liasing with overseas customers, acting as the middleman for Japanese clients.

Website localization
Website localization In the past I localized some websites into Japanese, but the majority of my more recent work is from Japanese into English.
With over 20 years of experience, I will ensure that the content of your website is error-free, and that the layout will be "responsive HTML" compliant, assuring consistency across an array of web browsers, and platforms (smartphones and tablets in particular).

Miscellaneous
Some other types of translation I have experience with are, presentations, technical specifications, theme park directory information, university PR brochures, airport English documentation, PR video subtitling, J->E video transcription, corporate profiles, annual reports, corporate communications, and market research reports for both printed media and Internet use.
